Home of Mercy Orphanage, Kisii , South West Kenya
A Church to Church partnership between Makara Baptist Church, Kenya and St Marys Baptist and Swansea Baptist, NSW

Home of Mercy was founded in 1993 by Rev. Henry Omreo Nyasemi in Kisii. The vision of at the orphanage came one night where God inform him of a need to start a children home where they will not only be sheltered but educated as well. He shared with the members of the church where he pastored and he received enormous support from them in terms of food and clothings, but because the congregation was not that able, they requested support from well-wishers to support them. The centre's goal is to provide for the well being of women who were left destitute by their husbands after succumbing to the deadly HIV/AIDS, their children, street children, orphans, and those who come from poor families.
Our first objectives is to focus around these young souls who have suffered by virtue of shelter, food, education and other basic needs.
MISSION:
The mission of Home of mercy Orphanage is to provide and enhance high quality education to these wonderful children God has blessed us with.
VISION:
To train these children to live a God fearing life in order to be a blessing to others as well.
Our home is registered with the local children's officer and is managed by Rev. Henry Omreo Nyasemi, House mother and catertaker and his family who live in the site and care for the children and other staff.
In 2001, out of a population of 81,000 in the region of Kisii, there were 15,000 orphans dying from diseases such as TB , Malaria and of course AIDS (The kisii has one the highest death rates in the country for example every fifth house you come to is run entirely by children whose parents have died from AIDS. In Kenya, just 5% of children orphaned by AIDS are fortunate to be takent cared by grandparents or the extended family. The less fortunate normally live in the streets.
When they come to us, we find difficult to reject them as some of those who come to us are malnourished and often in need of medical attention. As for those who are in extended families do sometimes show signs of physical abuse. However, the children quickly receive love and care that they find here.
All the children are settled in the schools we've started. The place has a atmosphere of love and the children are very happy here, treating it as their home.
